STUDENT HOUSINGExperience + Awards + Client Impressions". . .RADA Architects provided outstanding solutions to all of the dilemmas posed in this renovation effort. Even a full generation of students later we continue to get positive remarks from the residents on the attractive features created as part of the project. Illinois State University was pleased to partner with RADA Architects and the rest of the design team and the end result was a fantastic project. . . Student Living "in Style"
Sensibility to Context
Project Description:
New Construction for:
Student Residences Duplex Units
Signature Entry Canopies
Offices and Multi-Purpose Room
Common Areas Computer Labs
Study Rooms
Key Design Issues:
Visually integrate in the context of the surrounding buildings
Compact building design
The new Student Residence Hall preserves the character of a historic neighborhood in downtown Naperville while creating a unique state-of-the-art facility. The planning concept is based on creating duplex (2-story) suites serving 110 students for private living and study. On the exterior, each module is expressed as a townhouse jutting out in front of the main façade plane.
"We took great care to get it to fit in well with the neighborhood. RADA Architects were very sensitive to the surroundings"

Innovative Material Use | LED Lighting | Identity Student Clubs
Project Description:
Haynie Hall is one of the examples of modernist architecture constructed on the campus of ISU during the building boom of the 60's.
The Renovation of the 12-story Haynie Hall is a part of a Long Range Plan aiming at providing 21st century facilities on campus. RADA Architects replanned the student floors into clubs for a more contemporary lifestyle, new designs encouraged interaction in the common areas - like the lounges, Internet café and signature lobby. A dramatic new entry for the building created new and unique identity while the building exterior was totally renovated.
Key Design Issues:
Creating Identity and sense of place
Creating suites/clubs within an existing traditional dormitory layout
Sustainable Design Elements:
Use of LED lighting
Recyclable flooring

Student Living | Efficient Planning | Apartments
Project Description:
Addition and Renovation for:
Student Residence Hall for approx. 200 Students
Student Apartment Suites
Common Spaces (classroom, study rooms, multipurpose room & computer room)
Outdoor Canopy Grid & Plazas
Key Design Issues:
The Planning concept of the building exceeds the traditional dormitory arrangement through creating individualized spaces in apartment suites for the students.
The Canopy Grid and the Plaza creates an extension from indoor to outdoor space through a semi-covered grid framed by concrete columns and dark bronze beams.
The complexity of connecting an existing building was successfully resolved - and architecturally both old and new joined by a semi-covered plaza.
The project was completed in record short times - 9 mo. - design and construction time.

Student Living | Human Scale | Attention to Detail
Project Description:
Student Residence Hall for 160 Students
Student Wellness Center
Fitness Room
New Signature Entrance Canopy
As the first step of implementation of a long-range campus plan and Masterplan, Aurora University commissioned to RADA Architects to design a four-story building expansion to the existing Jenks Student Residence Hall to accommodate in total 160 students in suites. The existing Jenks Hall is a 1957 four-story brick building, which is a part of the building row surrounding the Aurora University Campus Quad. The public spaces on the lower level include a new Student Wellness Center for the campus with its own entry. The Wellness Center features a fitness center, as well as the campus health wellness clinic.
"Dear Rada, Bill & Wade, I am grateful for your hard work on behalf of our students...I am grateful for our ongoing partnership and the work we are doing together to advance the purposes of Aurora University."
