400EAST Club Revitalization
For New Identity & Multi-Use
Chicago, IL
Fitness | Spa | Pool | Offices | Winter Garden | Library | Children's Room
Project Description:
When constructed in 1963, Outer Drive East Tower on the Chicago lakefront was the pioneer of urban living together with the rising Marina City. The building was remembered for its particular location on the S curve on Lake Shore Drive (the Outer Drive). Its Buckminster Fuller inspired geodesic glass dome covering the swimming pool served in movie sets over the years.
For the pool space renovation, RADA Architects used kinetic LED lights turning the dome into a beacon of light in the Millennium Park neighborhood.
RADA Architects performed an extensive revitalization effort in multiple phases. The spaces include: offices, fitness and spa, winter garden, library, childrens room, swimming pool, etc. Renovation of other public shared areas followed in the spirit of creating a new image and enhanced use of spaces, creating a visual draw in an area where newer buildings are the competition for property values and identity.
